My first special order of the year: An 8 x 8 inch canvas painting— the “Trees At Dusk” design.
An awesome Facebook friend really likes my tree designs. She collects tree pictures from different artists. I felt honored to do one of my favorites for her. This is also my first painted tree design (although I have to admit this isn’t my first time in attempting trees—I used to love drawing trees as a kid)!
This is also my first time in painting an actual canvas picture, besides a floor cloth I painted with a similar material (like canvas but more stretchy and it’s not backed by wood).
I found it a challenge in blending the background colors as I am not used to painting on something so porous (besides wood), and that sucks up a lot of paint. I also am not a canvas painter! I thought in my head that I wasn’t blending it right….that is, until I walked away from it for over 12 hrs. When I came back to it I then saw that it was perfect just the way it was and that all the work I put into the background had paid off and that sometimesĀ you just have to step away from your work (in whatever it is you do) to get a “fresh” look….it’s like seeing something for the first time…it’s hard to describe, but if you are an artist or even a writer you know exactly what I am talking about.
Just a note: I do not normally paint on canvas. This blog post is just to show you something I completed and that I am proud of. My friend bought the canvas and sent it to me through the mail. Due to limited storage and other product that I have already in mind to paint and other various reasons, I probably will not be painting any other canvases (at least not now–NEVER SAY NEVER). The reason why I decided to paint this particular canvas is because I was allowed to do whatever I wanted with no limitations. In other words, I was allowed to paint my trees that I love, a color scheme I wanted, with no restrictions. Also because it was a small canvas and not a big one.
As someone who loves to create things, sometimes I have a hard time accepting certain special orders. Although 95% of the time I have fulfilled other people’s wishes, I often struggle with the concept of being trapped into only doing what someone else wants, whether it be a color scheme or someone’s pet or whatever it is they want me to do. I have to determine each order to see if it suits me. If I don’t feel compelled or inspired about what others want then I cannot paint from my heart and soul. I think I really shine with my work when I create something that moves me in some way……
On the other hand, I’ve had several friends inspire me with their ideas. Sending me pictures always gives something fresh to work with…..especially if I really like it as well and I know it will be popular with others. Sometimes one idea turns into another idea and something wonderful is created. With that said, check out the pictures of the canvas below: (YOU CAN CLICK ON THE PHOTOS TO ENLARGE THEM!)
