Ann Lihl’s Art: Celebrating Fall Jack O Lantern Earrings with FREE Shipping!

September 23rd, 2011

Hand Made Glass and Copper Earrings with Gold Plated Earring Backs. Hand Painted a “Jack O’ Lantern” to celebrate fall and even Halloween!

What better way to celebrate the upcoming fall and Halloween holidays than by wearing a cute set of earrings painted like Jack O’ Lanterns!

These earrings are made from recycled glass. Each piece of glass was hand cut and then wrapped in copper by my art partner Adam Castrejon. Then it was handed off to me to paint on both sides. It is completely painted orange and then painted to look like a Jack O’ Lantern on one side only on each piece. It is topped with a nickel-free earring back (the metal  that can cause allergic reactions) for those people (such as myself) who are sensitive to the cheap metals that some earrings are made of. These earrings are approximately 1 and 1/8 inches from top to bottom.

Each set will be wrapped carefully in tissue paper and then put into a cute black velvet jewelry pouch to protect your wearable art.

For a limited time only, these Jack O’ Lantern earrings will be $15 with FREE SHIPPING anywhere!

SBC News: I’ve Changed My Mind Again and Other Things!

September 8th, 2011

SBC Website Changes: Beauty Recipes, Featured Artists and one neat event I attended in August, 2011.

About a month ago, I decided to throw in the towel for posting any more beauty recipes and at that time I wanted to take down all the beauty recipes on this website. I was spending too much time figuring out what “new” recipe to put up every week and not getting the most important work done, such as being creative, painting, and other business priorities!

Anyways, something told me to just walk away for a while to see if this is what I really wanted to do, and I have decided to “KEEP” the beauty recipes up on this site so you can refer back to the recipes whenever you want. I just won’t be posting any new recipes this year UNLESS it’s a recipe for the holidays that is just too fun to pass up. Starting next year we’ll see how I feel about the beauty recipes (if I’ll keep them, post more of them, or what).

I will also keep the Featured Artist’s interviews on my website for now to show link love for my friends, but again, I will not focus on doing any new interviews for this year as my main focus is on creating and painting and other artistic endeavors which I will share with you here and there.

I can’t believe FALL is almost here! I have been working really hard on painting some new fall product, such as candle holders and earrings. I only do a few of each item, and most times only ONE of each item as a One of A Kind type thing. It’s been fun and I plan on sharing these cool projects with you very soon, amongst some other things I have been learning about, thinking about and about my mad growing adventures coming up.

On August 13, 2011, I was invited to a “Candles and Cocktails” party at a friend’s home. Her daughter Bella (as pictured below with me) was the best helper anyone could ask for at the party. She not only helped me at my table doing various small jobs, but she also was my best customer. She loved all the shiny glass objects, wanted to touch them all and even bought some for herself and as presents for others.

SBC News: New Product Launch ~ Wearable 3D Art Jewelry!

August 8th, 2011

Hand Made From Scratch and Hand Painted Too-Introducing Simply the Best Creations “Wearable 3D Art Jewelry-Earrings”!

I am so excited today! I’ve been chomping on the bit to finally share with you something new and exciting for us at Simply the Best Creations. I am finally able to show off some new artwork (earrings that is!) that is made from hand with glass and copper, hand painted like 3D art, topped with hypo-allergenic backs (gold filled or silver filled) or nickel-free earring backs (gold plated or stainless steel), then wrapped in a velvet black bag!

Let me tell you the story of how this came about!

Over a year ago, I met Adam Castrejon, my jewelry art partner in crime, through KSGVRadio.com. He was the producer of several shows on that internet radio station, and on one of those shows, I met him through Dennis Graham’s Free For All Fridays!

Dennis Graham invited me to be on the air in January of 2010 and I had a blast. I had the privilege of being on his show quite a few times after that, the last show being where I was able to interview a vampire and we had 20,000 listeners on the air! What excitement that was for Dennis, Adam and I!

Adam and I got to know each other better and through the process I learned that Adam himself was an oil painter amongst other things that he has done in the past (he’s a creative soul)! He approached me this year asking if I’d be interested in him making glass pieces for me to paint on! I was immediately interested as I always liked the idea of making stuff from scratch! It would be something neat and original and something you couldn’t find in a store! Not yet anyways!

In the process of him creating candle holders and other things, and through many meetings over lunch, Adam showed me something one day that made the light bulb go on in my head. He had accidentally broken some heart ornaments in half. Rather than waste the glass by throwing it away, he proceeded to make small teardrops using the half hearts. Upon me seeing it, I knew what our first product would be—EARRINGS!!! Immediately I told him this is what we will do first and foremost!! He was to make more of this half heart earrings (and now I call them TEARDROP earrings), small and large, and also round earrings, small and large too!

So Adam has been busy making lots of earrings, pendants, ornaments and candle holders so far. And there’s more to come in the future. Right now we are just working on earrings, but in the future I will keep  you posted on the rest of the items we are making together.

So, with that said, I have several hand made earrings to share with you this entire week, starting with today through Friday…but it doesn’t stop there.  As they are finished, I will be putting them up for sale on my ETSY shop which is HERE:

Below are pictures of the first four pairs of earrings for today! Check back with the ETSY shop link above to see the other pairs the rest of this week. I will not be posting a blog post for each day. Just check this link, bookmark it or put me in your circle on ETSY if you yourself have a shop up there, OR go to my Facebook Business Page, where I will be posting pictures of each pair of earrings on the wall for you to see every day this week. Check back often this week so you can see all of them. Please leave me a comment below and let me know what you think of these. I would love your feedback.

Very Important News! I’m Changing My Focus on This Website!

August 1st, 2011

Hi Everyone!

News ImageIn an effort to streamline and simplify my online presence and in creating more time for my art work and other fun and healthy goals, I have decided to make some changes on my website/blog.

1. My blog will now be called “NEWS”. In other words, I will only be writing about exciting news for Simply the Best Creations. This includes events,  interviews or news media material, new product launch information, anything that is exciting newsworthy material that will make a huge difference in the life of Simply the Best Creations. My “News” blog will no longer feature each painted piece of art that  includes pictures with Paypal buttons. All of my art will now be featured, described and sold (with pictures and descriptions ) on my ETSY SHOP.

ETSY is a marketplace where all things handmade, homemade, etc. is sold. Tons of artists display their goodies by use of a storefront where it gives a story and description of each item, a price, shipping fees, shop announcements and policies, enabling all of us artists and designers to make use of all of their merchant tools, support forums, and other goodies. By doing this, it allows me more freedom and time to create and design and streamlines it into one storefront instead of several storefronts.

2. My focus will be simple. My focus will only be in designing my creations, and writing newsworthy material regarding Simply the Best Creations and its progress. The extra articles I used to love to writing about, such as “Featured Artists”, “Beauty Recipes”, “Just For Fun”, “Greeting Card Tutorials” and other fun stuff, will not be the focus of this website any longer.

You are welcomed to join me on my Facebook business page where I will post pictures of my artwork and other fun things. Make sure to click on the LIKE button on that FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE and you are in (you have to have a Facebook profile to be able to join). I am also on Twitter and you can connect with me there, and you can also find me on the new Google + account under the name Ann Lihl. You are welcome to put me in your circle and I will do the same for you.

I will leave my beauty recipes up on this site till August 15th, at which time I will be taking that material off my website. All of my art work for sale will go in my ETSY SHOP. I encourage you to take advantage of this time to print out any beauty recipes you may want for your future use. Most of these recipes I got from books and videos online. There are tons of websites that have “natural beauty recipes” and other material. You can check on YouTube, or do a search on a search engine such as Google. There are probably hundreds of websites and online resources for your benefit. I have enjoyed sharing with you all these wonderful things, and I will continue to use the most natural approach to being beautiful myself.

Thank you and pretty soon I will have a special newsworthy announcement in regards to a new product launch coming up in just a week or two’s time! Stay tuned!

Beauty Recipe: Lavender Deodorant Body Powder!

July 27th, 2011

Homemade Beauty Products: How to Make Your Own Aromatic and Deodorizing Body Powder.

This week we will focus on what to use instead of talc, which is a dangerous ingredient to use on your body (it can be irritating to the lungs and often times it has traces of arsenic in it), and a recipe on making your own “Lavender Body Powder”.

Talc is an inexpensive ingredient used in many body powders. Growing up I do remember using powders on baby’s bottoms and on my own body as well. The powder had a perfumed smell. Little did I know what I know now and it’s been many years since I have used a powder on my body. You may or may not use powder but it is an option to keep in mind. Sometimes you may want to use a bit to help keep the skin dry under your arms (and it helps with odor too), or you may like the softness it provides after a shower. As always, I always strive to achieve a natural approach in my beauty products, and it’s cheaper to make my own than to buy from a store.

Other excellent base powder choices to use alone or in combination in place of talc include:

  • arrowroot powder
  • baking soda
  • chickpea flour
  • corn flour
  • cornstarch
  • French green clay, finely ground
  • oat flour
  • powdered calendula blossoms
  • powdered chamomile flowers
  • powdered lavender buds
  • powdered neem herb
  • powdered rose petals
  • rice flour
  • white clay, finely ground

Of course there are no set rules and you can play around with these substituting and experimenting as you like.

Body Powder Gift Idea:

Herbal body powders make great gifts at Christmas or birthdays, Mother’s day, whenever. You can make one of the recipes that I’ll be sharing with you for the next month and just divide that recipe into three or four portions. You can find a decorative tin or jar (from home or from a craft’s store or wherever–maybe even a vintage jar of some kind, whatever your heart’s desire). You can even make your own container from cardboard or wood, paint it or stencil it, and add the powder to it as a gift. Make sure the container can hold 3/4 cup to 1 cup of powder. Don’t fill it up all the way….say about 2/3rds of the container so it won’t get all over anyone when they go to open it up. You can place a satin back puff or small, fuzzy fluff brush inside and top the container with a bow and personalized label.

LAVENDER POWDER RECIPE:

This recipe makes a light, lovely, old-fashioned, floral-scented body powder. It’s especially wonderful to use on baby girls; it leaves behind a sweet, delicate, feminine aroma.

1 cup arrowroot

1 cup cornstarch

1 cup white clay

1/2 cup lavender buds, finely powdered

1/2 cup rose petals, finely powdered

200 drops of lavender or geranium essential oil

RECOMMENDED FOR: all skin types

USE: as desired

PREP TIME: approximately 20 minutes, plus 3 days for fragrance to synergize

BLENDING TOOLS: large bowl and whisk or food processor, mortar and pestle

STORE IN: zip-seal plastic bag, wooden or cardboard box, tin, plastic or glass jar, or shaker container

YIELD: approximately 4 cups

Combine all ingredients except the essential oil in a large bowl or food processor. Stir slowly with a whisk or whirl in the food processor for 15 seconds until well blended. Using a mortar and pestle, combine the essential oil drop by drop with 6 or 7 tablespoons of the powder mix until the oil is absorbed. Add this oil mixture to the remaining powder and whisk the mixture slowly (to avoid making too much dust) or shake vigorously in a large container with a tight-fitting lid. If using a food processor, whirl for 15 seconds to blend.

Store the powder in an airtight storage container in a cool, dark place for 3 days to allow the scent of the essential oil and the flowers to permeate the mixture. Package the powder in smaller containers if desired.

No refrigeration is required, but for maximum fragrance and freshness, please use within one year.

APPLICATION TIPS: Apply as you would any body powder–by sprinkling or “puffing” over entire body or only certain areas.

Happy Powder Puffing! LOL!

This information and the recipe itself came from a book called, “Organic Body Care Recipes” by Stephanie Tourles. You can purchase this book on Amazon. I do not make any money on promoting this book. I am just sharing an awesome recipe from it.
